The Saskatoon Blades (13-14-0-1) kick off a home and home with their division rival Regina Pats (11-16-2-2) tonight. It's the third meeting of the season between the two teams this year and the second time that the teams meet in Saskatoon.
The Blades are looking to rebound as they are coming off of their second straight loss. The Blades dropped a 4-1 decision on Wednesday night to the Spokane Chiefs. In that game, the Chiefs scored twice in the first 6:53 to take command of the game. They added to their lead early in the second period and Saskatoon wasn't able to climb out of the hole. When it was all said and done, Spokane got their goals from Todd Fiddler, Blake Gal, Liam Stewart and Mitch Holmberg, while Matej Stransky scored the lone Saskatoon goal.
Eric Williams was solid in the Chiefs cage, making 30 saves for the win. Andrey Makarov stopped 18 shots in the loss for Saskatoon.
As mentioned, these teams meet for the 3rd time this season, with both games being entertaining and heated affairs. The games have broken down as follows:
3-2 Blades win in Regina - October 30th - Josh Nicholls 2 goals, Shane McColgan had GWG at 13:03 of 3rd period.
6-3 Blades win in Saskatoon - November 9th - Josh Nicholls 2 goals, Shane McColgan 1 goal and 3 assists.
Saskatoon will look to continue their winning ways against the Pats tonight while also getting a big boost to their lineup as Dalton Thrower is expected to return to the Blades lineup. Thrower has missed the past 11 games after suffering an upper body injury in the early stages of November. So far this season the Montreal Canadiens prospect has posted 6 points, 23 PIMs and a +3 rating in 13 games.
