Blades Stalled on a Saturday Night
The Saskatoon Blades saw their four-game point streak come to an end with a 3-0 loss to the Regina Pats at home on Saturday night.
For the Bridge City Bunch, it marked just the second time this season being shutout and the first time at home.
Regina – 2nd – Jordan Eberle (Myles Bell) 2:08
The Pats took a 1-0 lead in the hockey game early in the second period on Eberle’s first of two on the night. The 19-year-old pulled the puck out of the left wing corner, weaved through traffic, and fired it high over the right shoulder of Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) just under the cross bar.
Regina – 3rd – Matt Strueby (Brett Leffler) 4:12
Strueby gave the Pats a two-goal lead just four minutes into the third on his 34th of the year. Leffler stole the puck off of a Blades’ defender and got a quick shot off from in front that was stopped by Morrison. Strueby, a three-year veteran, jumped on the rebound and made it 2-0.
Regina – 3rd – Eberle (Strueby, Leffler) 18:03 en
Eberle closed out the scoring with an empty netter with less than two minutes on the clock for his second of the night and 45th of the campaign. Strueby carried into the Blades zone down the left wing and sent the puck across to Eberle in front. The WHL’s leading scorer slid it just under a sprawling Blades’ defenseman into the yawning cage and secured the victory.
Morrison stopped 26 of 28 shots in the Saskatoon net to take the loss. Dawson Guhle made 19 saves in the Pats’ net for the shutout win.
Final score Regina Pats 3, Saskatoon Blades 0.
The Blades drop to 43-15-3-4 for 93 points on the season but still remain alone atop the WHL’s East Division. The Pats improve their season record to 27-32-3-4 for 61 points and are nine points out of a playoff spot with six games remaining.
The Blades are next in action on Wednesday night with an important visit to the Brandon Wheat Kings. The next home game at Credit Union Centre for the Blades is Tuesday, March 9th when the Moose Jaw Warriors are in town.
