Saskatoon Blades General Manager and Head Coach Lorne Molleken announced today the team has acquired Saskatoon product Jeremy Boyer from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for forward prospect Stefan Burzan and a 3rd round Bantam Draft pick in 2010.
In Boyer, the Blades receive a 19-year-old forward who already has three full Western Hockey League seasons under his belt. Last season, the 5'11, 152-pounder tallied 21 goals to go along with 35 assists for 56 points in 71 games played while adding 29 penalty minutes. A former Saskatoon Blazer midget, Boyer was originally picked by the Thunderbirds in the 2nd round (36th overall) in the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft.
The Blades give up Burzan, the team’s 6th round pick (130th overall) in this past May’s WHL Bantam Draft. The 15-year-old played in 2 preseason games with the Blades this fall, registering 1 assist.
“With the departure of Chris Langkow we felt we needed to address that position quickly,” commented Molleken about the acquisition. “Jeremy is a player we are familiar with in that he is a local player and we agreed he would be able to provide the experience and offense we needed.”
Boyer is expected to join the Blades in time for this weekend’s road trip to Prince Albert on Friday and Brandon on Saturday.
The Blades’ current roster now stands at 27 players – including 16 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders.
